Description
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is an analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence that slows enzymatic breakdown.
What is Selank?
Selank has been studied in animal models for its effects on GABAergic signalling, monoamine turnover and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Because it comes from tuftsin, it is also investigated for effects on cytokine expression and immune signalling. It is often compared with Semax, a separate peptide derived from ACTH(4-10).
Research Applications
- GABA-A receptor modulation
- BDNF expression in neural tissue
- Anxiety-related behaviour in rodent models
- Cytokine and immune signalling
- Comparisons with N-acetyl and amidated Selank analogues
