BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound 157) is a synthetic peptide derived from a sequence of amino acids found in a naturally occurring protein in the stomach.
BPC-157 arginate, sold here as BPC-157 with Arginine, is the pentadecapeptide BPC-157 prepared as an arginine salt rather than the more common acetate salt. BPC-157 has the sequence Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val and is a partial sequence of a protein found in human gastric juice. The name stands for Body Protection Compound 157.
Most published BPC-157 research comes from the laboratory of Predrag Sikiric at the University of Zagreb. Rat studies have examined healing of tendon, ligament, muscle, and bone, as well as protection of the gastric and intestinal lining against various injuries. Mechanistic work points to several pathways: upregulation of VEGFR2 and angiogenesis, interaction with the nitric oxide system, and activation of FAK-paxillin signaling in tendon fibroblasts, which relates to cell migration and spreading.
The counterion does not change the peptide sequence. Salt form can, however, affect solubility, pH in solution, and stability over time. The arginine salt has been promoted as more stable than the acetate form in aqueous and acidic conditions, a claim that makes it a subject for direct comparison in laboratory stability testing against BPC-157 Acetate and standard BPC-157.
