Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is a coenzyme central to metabolism.

Found in all living cells, NAD is called a dinucleotide because it consists of two nucleotides joined through their phosphate groups.

One nucleotide contains an adenine nucleobase and the other, nicotinamide.
