Description
N-Acetyl Selank Spray is a solution form of N-acetyl Selank, a modified version of the synthetic heptapeptide Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro). The only change from the parent sequence is an acetyl group on the N-terminal threonine. It is supplied as a pre-dissolved spray solution rather than a dry vial.
What is N-Acetyl Selank Spray?
Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences as an analog of tuftsin, a tetrapeptide fragment of immunoglobulin G. A Pro-Gly-Pro tail was added to the tuftsin sequence to slow enzymatic breakdown. Rodent studies of the parent peptide have looked at anxiety-related behavior, expression of genes linked to GABAergic signaling, and inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes.
N-terminal acetylation caps the free amine at the start of the chain. In peptide chemistry this modification is used to reduce cleavage by aminopeptidases, which attack peptides from the N-terminal end. Researchers use acetylated analogs to compare stability in solution and in biological matrices against unmodified Selank. This version carries the N-acetyl group only and leaves the C-terminus as a free acid, which separates it from the N-Acetyl Selank Amidate product.
