Description
Tirzepatide (LY3298176) is a 39-amino-acid synthetic peptide that activates two incretin receptors: the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. This listing supplies tirzepatide as a 20mg lyophilized vial for laboratory research.
What is Tirzepatide?
The peptide backbone is based on the native GIP sequence, modified so that it also binds the GLP-1 receptor. A C20 fatty diacid attached through a linker promotes binding to serum albumin, which extends its half-life to roughly five days in clinical pharmacokinetic studies. Tirzepatide has greater affinity for the GIP receptor than for the GLP-1 receptor, a profile often described as “imbalanced” dual agonism.
It is the active ingredient in two FDA-approved medicines: Mounjaro (2022, type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (2023, chronic weight management). In the phase 3 SURMOUNT-1 trial (Jastreboff et al., NEJM 2022), participants on the highest dose lost an average of 20.9% of body weight over 72 weeks. That makes tirzepatide the usual reference compound when laboratories study newer incretin-based molecules.
